An American & Rare Breeds Farm

Home of the Northeast's First Guinea Hog Breeding Farm

Sorry, we are sold out for 2011.

Have you always wanted chickens?
You can have them, even if you live in urban or suburban areas! Maybe you never thought you could keep a small flock where you live. Forget the notion that keeping chickens in-town isn’t possible. You can start raising your own poultry as soon as you’d like.

Chickens will provide:

◊  Hormone-free and antibiotic-free eggs that taste better and are healthier than store bought eggs.

◊  Fertilizer for the garden (especially acid-loving plants like tomatoes).

◊  Pest control of insects, ticks and grubs.

◊  Lots of entertainment.

At Sullbar Farm, we offer a unique opportunity for those folks who want to keep a small flock of laying hens at home. The benefits to you, besides healthy, nutrition-packed FRESH eggs every day, is the pleasure of watching your own colorful hens peck in the yard or in their pen, and the ability to teach your family about the responsibilities of their care. You will be rewarded with extra-large brown eggs of a color, size and taste that you've never experienced before unless you buy your eggs directly from a farmer now.

So where do you begin? Once you've chosen how many hens you'll need to supply you with eggs, choose the breeds you like (they are all very pretty!) and place your order with us. We only offer you breeds that are winter-hardy, big brown egg layers. We do not sell meat or fancy birds.

Download our brochure outlining what you'll need to get ready. Also, make sure your zoning allows chickens (check with your town or city). If you live in a subdivision, make sure there are no covenants against having poultry in the area. All chickens require a few basic things to thrive: They need shelter from the cold, wind and predators; they need an area to stretch their wings in the sunshine and they need fresh water and feed at all times. A nesting or laying box is much appreciated. Hens are simple, predictable creatures. They are happy spending their days eating grass, bugs, seeds and whatever else strikes their fancy. They love fruit, bread and many table scraps, although these foods should lot make up most of their diet as it can interfere with egg production. Chickens are scavengers and opportunist diners. If it's there and tastes good, it's dinner

IMPORTANT! Raising chicks from the day they hatch requires someone's watchful eye, cleaning the pens, checking feed and water and making sure the temperature is right throughout the day. You'd need to figure out what to keep them in, how to make it larger as they grow, how to keep them warm enough - but not too warm - and how to be sure they are thriving.
Young kids can squash chicks
Under 5 set frequently drop them
Consistent temperature is a must

Place Your Order

Once you've chosen your breeds and are very sure that you will have proper housing completed for your new arrivals in time, you can choose one of the following:

◊ Print an order form, mail to us with your payment or fax it to us and send your payment in the mail. Our contact info.

◊ Print the order form, email it to us and use PayPal below.

Your order will be confirmed by us upon receipt of your payment.   You will be notified when they are hatched. The young hens will be ready for you to pick up 5-6 weeks later. You can use any safe carrier that won't overcrowd them on the trip home. A dog crate or a big box with a lid will work just fine. Something to drape over a crate to darken the space will keep the pullets calm and quiet. Have questions? Contact us.

We make every effort to make sure that your order is exactly what you asked for. However, nature rules on any farm, and if for some reason we cannot fill your order or or only partially fill it, we will promptly notify you and refund your money.
